Does James Gunn Play Favorites Too Much?
James Gunn prefers to cast actors he's previously worked with in his films. However, isn't that common within the industry?
Everything James Gunn does and announces for the new DCU is considered news and can get over-analyzed. One of the latest concerns that has been raised about James Gunn's casting choice as the co-CEO of DC Studios by both fans and reviewers is his propensity to use performers he has previously worked with in his productions, getting accused of favoritism and nepotism, as he favors friends and relatives in his films. Since taking over the DCU, he has already cast longtime friend Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, in Superman: Legacy, and his brother Sean Gunn will play three separate roles: Weasel (which he reprises from The Suicide Squad) and G.I. Robot in Creature Commandos as well as Maxwell Lord in many upcoming DCU films. He also cast his wife, Jennifer Holland, in The Suicide Squad, and she will likely return in future DCU projects.
