The Flash was a movie that was years in the making, and by the time it finally arrived in theaters, it landed not with applause but with a thud. Despite months of Warner Bros. trying to build hype for the movie, with the likes of Tom Cruise and Stephen King calling it the "best superhero movie," the finished film was received negatively by critics and audiences. With a budget ranging between $200 to $222 million, the movie earned less than the 2011 box office bomb Green Lantern, with $108.1 million domestic and $271.3 million worldwide, costing Warner Bros. reportedly $200 million.
