'Shrek's Major Plot Twist Is One of the Best of This Century

Everybody’s seen Shrek. For an entire generation of kids from the '90s and early 2000s, the big green ogre was inescapable, and even nowadays, it’s impossible to overstate just how influential DreamWorks’ breakout animated film was. At a time when the Disney Renaissance was winding down, and fairy tales by way of Broadway musicals were the norm for animation, Shrek was an irreverent shock to the senses.
