The 97th Academy Awards are just around the corner, and all eyes are on which of the ten films will take home the top prize for Best Picture. The lineup for the 2025 Oscars is a diverse mix, with big-budget blockbusters like Dune: Part Two and Wicked sitting alongside lesser-seen movies like I'm Still Here and Nickel Boy that have a fraction of those films’ catering budgets. Where else would a drama about selecting the next pope like Conclave be mentioned alongside a body horror film like The Substance? This year's Best Picture nominees do a great job of showcasing the many genres, stories, and tones of films produced last year, even if they still managed to snub a masterpiece like Challengers.
